After meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, US President Donald Trump said a framework for pursuing an agreement on Greenland’s future had been set up and the wider Arctic region was established.
This understanding is reflected in Trump’s statement that the tariffs scheduled to be effective on February 1 will not implement any of the measures proposed.
The meeting was’very productive,’ Trump said, adding that “if the framework is implemented it will have positive effects on both the US and all NATO countries.” He also said that further talks are ongoing under the program known as the “Golden Dome” (including Greenland), and that more information will be shared with the public as negotiations progress.
JD Vance and Marco Rubio would lead the negotiations, said the president, with Steve Witkoff and other officials involved as needed. These people would report directly to Trump on the progress of their talks, Trump said.
