Claims Spread That X Banned Cryptocurrency Ads: Here’s the Truth

The Paid Collaboration Policy has found that the cryptocurrency sector is one of the banned industries – and claims social media platform X, which includes its industry as well as other untrue sectors.

There has been a consensus among the community that reports of the crypto sector being banned from promotion as of March 1st are not based on any new rules.

The cryptocurrency industry has been one of the “industries ineligible for paid partnership promotion” since at least June 2024, according to web-archive records. The ban is not a new move, this means for paraphrasingr.

But comparing the 2024 policy text with the current most up-to-date version, there is no change about whether the cryptocurrency sector will be added to the banned category. Nevertheless, some technical and administrative changes are noteworthy.

While paid content was previously subject to the use of this “#ad (Advertisement)” tag, * has since been required by the new text to explicitly label the content as ‘ Ad’ or ’Content Promotion”.

  • While notifications were previously sent via email, the new regulation stipulates that this should be done through a form.
  • A provision has been added to the current policy text stating that exceptions may be granted in certain circumstances.

Despite the records of archival documents, posts that have circulated within the crypto community saying “X has declared the Crypto sector a new off-limits industry with its latest policy” are misinformation. Since June 2024, the industry ineligible for paid collaboration promotions has been a sector known as the crypto sector.

*This is not investment advice.
